So … about that “100 percent” guarantee.
UFC CEO, Dana White, recently told the combat sports media that reigning UFC heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, would return to unify the division straps against current interim titleholder, Tom Aspinall, at some point in 2025.
We’re about to hit February and there’s still no word of a possible date or location.
“There’s no situation … it’s the biggest fight we can make,” White told The Mac Life. “I know the fans like to mess with Jon or whatever. Jon Jones isn’t afraid of anybody and Jon Jones will fight anybody. It’s just a matter of getting the fight done now. That’s our job.”
UFC typically reserves big-money fights for International Fight Week in Las Vegas, held every year in early July. The promotion’s annual stop at Madison Square Garden in New York City is also an option, assuming White can get both fighters to put pen to paper.
“If we don’t get the fight done, we move on, and we make another fight,” White continued. “Not last night, but the night before, I was up in my room with my people until like six in the morning. We’re working on lots of stuff right now. There’s lots of really good sh*t going on right now.”
Despite his emphatic victory over former 265-pound kingpin, Stipe Miocic, the 37 year-old Jones is no longer the favorite to defeat Aspinall, several years younger than “Bones” at 31. Unfortunately for thirsty fight fans, there’s not much we can do except sit and wait.
But don’t worry, anything is a “possibility” in UFC.
