Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen are going head to head as coaches on the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter.
On Saturday, Cormier and Sonnen announced during the UFC 311 broadcast that they will serve as coaches on TUF 33, which is set to air later this year. This will be the second time Cormier has coached a season of TUF and the third time for Sonnen, who also captained a team on TUF: Brazil 3 opposite Wanderlei Silva.
TUF 33 is expected to feature welterweights and flyweights competing in a tournament for a UFC contract.
The UFC Hall of Famers (Cormier was inducted to the Modern Wing in 2022, while Sonnen was inducted alongside Anderson Silva to the Fight Wing in 2024 for their classic battle at UFC 117) are no strangers to working with one another, as they currently work together on the Good Guy/Bad Guy podcast on ESPN.
Before transitioning into broadcasting, Cormier and Sonnen both authored unforgettable fighting careers. Cormier reigned as a two-division champion in his prime having captured both the UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight titles, while also being part of a years-long rivalry with all-time great Jon Jones.
Sonnen never claimed UFC gold, but challenged for it on three occasions, losing twice to Silva and once to Jones after he coached opposite Jones on Season 17 of TUF.
