The Minnesota Vikings got the ultimate insurance policy.
With the New York Giants paying the bulk of Daniel Jones’ salary, they brought him into their quarterback room.
Now, the Duke product will serve as Sam Darnold’s backup.
As reported by NFL Jersey Numbers on X, Jones will wear the Vikings’ No. 13 jersey, which was last assigned to WR N’Keal Harry.

Jones’ tenure as a starter was mostly disappointing, but, like everything in sports, it has to be put into context.
He was judged by his steep salary, but at just $375,000 for the remainder of the season, he’s a massive bargain for the Vikings.
Also, as badly as things have fared lately, he won a playoff game, and that kind of experience cannot be overlooked.
Granted, he might not be a starting-caliber quarterback in the league, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a place in it.
Multiple good teams have struggled to finish a season because of a key injury to their starting quarterback.
Teams like the Miami Dolphins took care of almost every position on their roster, and we saw how much they struggled once Tua Tagovailoa suffered a concussion.
The Vikings had Nick Mullens as Sam Darnold’s backup, and he might not be the best alternative they could’ve gone with if Darnold were to miss time.
Now, the Vikings have a veteran with a huge chip on his shoulder who can take over the offense if necessary.
