Bayern Munich took a step back last weekend in a 2-1 loss to Mainz 05, which put a lot of emphasis on this Friday’s final match before the Winterpause, which is against RB Leipzig.
Not exactly a great scenario for the Bavarians, but CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen is ready to turn the page on what could be a “decisive moment” for the season per Joshua Kimmich.
“We didn’t play well in Mainz, we’re all aware of that. Joshua Kimmich put it accurately that we need to take the situation seriously and sharpen up. The last game of the year is important, we want to finish the year properly, in other words: beat Leipzig,” Dreesen told Tz’s Hanna Raif (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “It’s an important moment because we obviously want to defend our lead at the top. That includes making it clear to the competition that they cannot catch us. We had eight injured players in Mainz, but we are not complaining, FC Bayern never did that. We definitely had enough quality on the pitch to win the game.”
RB Leipzig will present a significant challenge to Bayern Munich and could be playing with a purpose given how Marco Rose’s job could be in jeopardy.
High stakes for everyone it seems…
