After an incredible year coaching the Colorado Buffaloes, Deion Sanders’ name began floating around NFL circles for one of the available head coaching gigs, particularly that of the Dallas Cowboys, before they opted to instead promote offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to the position.
It was somewhat surprising that Sanders’ name was strongly associated with the Cowboys, only for the team to choose a different route.
However, Sanders recently clarified his own interest in making the leap to the pros.
Sanders stopped by First Take on Monday to speak with Molly Qerim, Stephen A. Smith, and Shannon Sharpe during Super Bowl week.
“At this point in time, I’m called to the college game,” Sanders said.

Many assumed that when Shedeur and Shilo Sanders made the jump to the NFL, Deion would follow them, whether with one of their teams or somewhere else.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones seemed inclined to hand the team’s head coaching job to Deion after the two parties began being linked to one another, which would have been a fitting next step for Coach Prime to bring some flair back to his former franchise during a time when it could use a bit of it.
It’s great news for Colorado fans that Sanders is sticking around because he has unfinished business with the Buffaloes after coming up just short of slipping into the first 12-team College Football Playoff.
We’ll see if he can get there without his son at quarterback and without a two-way Heisman winner at wide receiver and cornerback.
This year will be a true test for him, and if he can succeed once again, the NFL will surely come calling again next offseason if he wants it.
