Arizona transfer quarterback Demond Williams wrapped up his official visit to Washington on Sunday evening but couldn’t wait until it was over to announce his decision to play for the Huskies. The former four-star prospect and All-American Bowl standout from Chandler (Ariz.) Basha entered the transfer portal after coach Jedd Fisch left Tucson for Seattle and wasted little time to lock in an official visit.
Now, the dynamic signal caller is set to play his college ball in the Pacific Northwest.
“I’m super excited,” Williams told 247Sports. “I feel like it’s a great opportunity for me in Seattle. There are countless opportunities in the business field for me and I definitely got the family feel that came over from Arizona. I kind of knew I was going to like it, obviously with the relationships I have on staff, but it turned out that I actually love it up there.”
The Huskies were viewed as the primary contender for Williams the moment he went into the portal given the comfort level with Fisch and position coach Jimmie Dougherty. They were a major reason why the exciting quarterback flipped his commitment from Ole Miss to Arizona back in the summer.
Williams was the nation’s No. 19 rated quarterback and No. 4 overall prospect in the state of Arizona for the 2024 class, per the 247Sports rankings. He guided Basha to the State Open Division title as a junior in 2022, passing for 2,339 yards and 23 touchdowns with another 764 yards as a rusher. He had another productive year as a senior, with more than 4,300 yards of total offense.
“I’m super comfortable with the coaches and, honestly, they’ve had faith in me since I was a freshman,” Williams said. “I felt like being loyal to them was my best decision and just continuing to trust that they will be the best for my development.
“They want me to come in and compete. I’m excited to get in there and push for playing time right away. That was the plan all along, even if coach Fisch had stayed at Arizona and I was there right now. I just want to compete and plan to make an impact. They want to run an NFL pro-style offense just like they did at Arizona where they can enhance my skills.”
Williams, who enrolled in Tucson earlier this month, is due to arrive in Seattle for good next Saturday.
Although smaller in stature with good length and a strong lower half, Williams is an electric quarterback who can beat defenses with his arm and legs. He’s an accurate down-field passer with great feel for the deep ball, shows consistency on intermediate attempts and flashes elusiveness and improvisation when the pocket collapses.
There’s been a QB exodus in Montlake. The Huskies signed Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) Etiwanda four-star Dermaricus Davis in the 2024 class but have faced departures by Dylan Morris, Will Rogers and Austin Mack in recent weeks.
