Belichick was, of course, the longtime head coach of the Patriots for the majority of the 21st century. In total, he spent 24 seasons with New England and helped lead the franchise to six Super Bowl victories.
Coincidentally, after Belichick parted with the Patriots last January, New England used the No. 3 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft to select Maye a few months later.
Now, the former Patriots head coach is going to be in charge of the school where Maye developed into one of 2024’s top quarterback prospects.
The former Tar Heels signal-caller seems to think Belichick is going to enjoy his time at North Carolina, and at this point in time, there’s no reason to think this won’t be the case.
There’s always going to be doubters for everything, but the guy is arguably the most successful head coach in NFL history. If anyone should be given the benefit of the doubt, it’s Belichick.
With the Tar Heels, if he can achieve even a quarter of what he was able to accomplish in New England, his tenure at the school will likely be viewed as a success.
If it doesn’t end up working out for Belichick at North Carolina, oh well. He’s still going to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame one day, and anything that happens during his tenure with the Tar Heels is highly unlikely to tarnish his legacy.
For now, all we know is that there is going to be more attention on the North Carolina football program in the next few months than ever before.
