Cal Poly quarterback Sam Huard entered the transfer portal Monday, sources told 247Sports. Huard spent the 2023 campaign with the Mustangs, throwing for 2,247 yards on 184-of-302 passing with 18 touchdowns in nine starts.
He originally signed with Washington in the class of 2021 and started the Apple Cup for the Huskies, his lone start at UW.
As a 2022 redshirt freshman, he backed up Michael Penix Jr. for the Huskies before transferring to Cal Poly.
With the Mustangs, he reunited with his high school head coach, Sheldon Cross, who was hired as the offensive coordinator at Cal Poly.
The state of Washington’s all-time leading prep passer, Huard made his way to several of Cal Poly’s top-10 lists. He set a single-game program record with 38 completions at Sacramento State, and his 483 yards in that game are the second most in program history.
Huard tied a program record with six touchdowns passes against Lincoln.
His 2,247 yards passing in 2023 were the seventh most in single-season program history. His 154 completions for the season are the fifth most in program history.
