Fullerton College receiver Leland Smith will announce his college decision on Wednesday’s National Signing Day, choosing between Miami, Mississippi State, Purdue and Temple.
The 6-foot-5, 205-pound Smith is coming off a strong season where he turned 26 receptions into 655 yards and nine touchdowns. He used his 4.41 speed in the 40-yard dash and 45-inch vertical to average over 25 yards per catch.
247Sports tabs Smith as the nation’s No. 5 receiver and No. 27 prospect overall. He talked about each of his finalists.
Regarding Miami: “It’s a big thing with the people that are in place, Coach Cristobal, the love being showed. They were probably latest to the party but its been consistent love from them and seeing the opportunity there to dominate in the ACC.”
Regarding Mississippi State: “Just the offense with Coach Lebby and everything and the whole staff up there. Incredibly insightful, I know what their plan is, the real deal, air-raid, scorefest mentality. I like it.”
Regarding Purdue: “I like the whole staff up there. That was the first Power Five school to give me an offer coming out of JUCO. The whole staff, the love being shown by them. The plan they have for the future and everything like that. Catch Walters’ vision and the offense Coach Harrell ran at USC and his plan and what he wants to do at Purdue. I like Coach Patterson a lot. That’s my guy. He was the first Power Five school to give me an offer. I’ve been talking to him consistently since he gave me my offer in mid October. We talk every few days.”
Regarding Temple: “It’s a real big combination of the opportunity here to come in and dominate on that level as well the high academics. I’ve always been high on my academics and it’s probably the highest academic opportunity as well to get in there get my undergrad done and start on my postgrad before going to the next level.”
