The Atlanta Falcons knew their quarterback situation needed a big upgrade.
They gave Kirk Cousins a four-year deal with $90 million guaranteed as soon as free agency started.
Then, shortly after, they drafted his apparent replacement, Michael Penix Jr., with the No. 8 pick.
Fast forward to today, and it seems like Cousins’ tenure in Georgia has officially come to an end.
Raheem Morris demoted him and plans to start his rookie quarterback for the remainder of the season.
More than that, he also wants to move on from Cousins as a whole.
According to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Falcons are now fully expected to cut Cousins.

Apparently, they intend to do so before his $10 million roster bonus is due on March 17.
Cousins didn’t look good at all in his final five starts with the team, leading them to a 1-4 record and throwing one touchdown with nine interceptions.
The Falcons lost their edge in the NFC South Division and are now at risk of missing the playoffs, and Cousins had plenty to do with that.
Then again, to be fair, it’s not like the offense did him any favors, either.
The Falcons went away from everything that worked for him.
He’s not the best drop-back quarterback in the league, but he’s quite efficient in play-action, yet they rarely ran any.
The Falcons will now have to pay him a lot of money to play for another team next season, and some believe he could be in line to be the next Cleveland Browns’ quarterback.
