After injuring his finger in a losing effort against SMU, Florida State QB DJ Uiagalelei might be unavailable for the Seminoles’ game against No. 15 Clemson on Saturday.
Head coach Mike Norvell said the Seminoles would “see where it goes from here” when speaking to the media on Monday, according to Andrea Adelson of ESPN. If Uiagalelei is unable to suit up, backup QB Brock Glenn would likely get the start for FSU.
The two players are listed as co-starters on the depth chart, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Prior to the injury, this season had already been a challenge for Uiagalelei. Including the game against SMU, he has a 53.8 completion percentage while accounting for four touchdowns and six interceptions.
While the 2024 season for the Seminoles has been disappointing up to this point, all the issues cannot solely be attributed to Uiagalelei. Some of his decisions have been questionable, but he has also been sacked 12 times. The team has only scored 15.6 points per game and converted just shy of 30 percent of its third-down attempts, which ranks 109th in the country out of 134 FBS teams.
“DJ did make a lot of good throws throughout the course of the game and some good decisions,” Norvell said in his Monday news conference. “He made some poor decisions and a couple bad throws, but you’ve got to help the quarterback. I don’t think we’ve done a good job of that consistently. At the end of the day, we all have to take ownership in that.”
In his limited snaps with the Seminoles, including last season’s ACC championship game, Glenn has only completed 19 of 55 pass attempts for 229 yards while throwing two interceptions. He has rushed for a touchdown, but has yet to throw a touchdown pass.
Kickoff between the Seminoles and the Tigers is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET Saturday. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
