Mike Norvell is losing some money after a 2024 season that saw the Florida State Seminoles lose far more than they won.
On the heels of an extremely disappointing 2-10 season, it’s being reported that Norvell’s contract is being restructured so that he “donates” $4.5M of his money to Florida State. This, according to college football insider Ross Dellenger.
That’s $4.5M that you could make the case that Norvell didn’t earn in 2024 considering just how bad the Seminoles were. From an undefeated regular season in 2023 and being a College Football Playoff hopeful in the preseason to 2-10 … that’s a terrible fall off no matter how you frame it.
Sure, the Seminoles dealt with injuries and transfer quarterback DJ Uiagalelei wasn’t the answer that FSU thought he would be, but ultimately all that losing in 2024 falls on Norvell. He fired coaches mid-season and that still only resulted in one additional win.
Norvell now has a 33-27 record in five seasons at Florida State and that’s with the disappointing 2-10 season on his slate. That’s still a positive record, but with how bad FSU looked this season and how unprepared the Seminoles were to compete even against mid-tier teams … Norvell is lucky that a contract restructure is all the pain he’s likely to feel this offseason.
Had Florida State chosen to fire him, the Seminoles would have had plenty of reason after this season.
