Football scouting relies more than ever on gaining as much context as possible in regards to verified athleticism, and track and field season provides perhaps the best data in that category. This past weekend’s Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, an annual track and field extravaganza in Austin hosting high school and college competitors, showcased the multi-sport athleticism of numerous noteworthy football prospects. Here’s a rundown of some of the headline-grabbing numbers, according to Athletic.net and MileSplit.com.
5-STAR DAKORIEN MOORE, DUNCANVILLE ROLL AGAIN IN 4×100 RELAY
Dakorien Moore, a 2025 Top247 five-star receiver committed to LSU, teamed with LSU Top247 four-star signee Caden Durham, 2026 receiver Ayson Theus, and 2025 track star Brayden Williams to rip a 39.65-second 4×100 relay to win the high school division at the Texas Relays. That number, which marks Duncanville’s second sub-40.00 performance of the spring, is good for No. 2 all-time at the high school level, trailing only Humble (Texas) Atascocita, which set the national record of 38.92 only a week prior.
But that wasn’t all for Moore. He also recorded a strong long jump rep of 22-6.76, which follows at least two 23+ reps earlier this semester, per Athletic.net. The Top247 rankings put Moore a cornerstone of LSU’s No. 3-ranked 2025 recruiting class, at No. 4 overall and No. 1 among receivers in his class.
KARSON GORDON SETS TRIPLE JUMP RECORD
UCLA 2024 signee Karson Gordon set a Texas high school state record with his 53-foot, 1 1/2-inch triple jump performance this past weekend at the Texas Relays. Gordon is no stranger to triple jump accolades, having won the Nike Outdoor Nationals and Texas Relays in 2023. According to MileSplit, Gordon’s 53-1.5 places 14th all-time on the national level. That jump also proved five feet better than anyone else in the triple jump finals of the Texas Relays.
SOPHOMORES LEAD AMERICAN HERITAGE TO 4×200 CROWN
Brandon Bennett, a 247Sports initial top 100 prospect in the 2026 class, joined classmates Braylen Bennett and Zamarii Sanders and senior Braden Parris to win the Texas Relays big-school 4×200 final with a time of 1:23.76, easily more than two full seconds faster than second place. The Bennetts also ran on Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage’s 40.36-second 4×100 relay, which finished behind only Duncanville. Wisconsin safety signee Xavier Lucas ran anchor on that relay unit.
MORE NOTABLE NUMBERS FROM THE TEXAS RELAYS
— Ferzell Shepard, a 2025 Top247 four-star receiver, had a busy day as well. In individual competition, he breezed past 45 feet in the triple jump with a 45-8.75. Shepard also ran the second leg of Baton Rouge (La.) Scotlandville Magnet’s 4×200 relay, which placed second in the big-school finals, and the 4×400 relay, which ran the fourth-fastest preliminary time.
— Kansas State four-star receiver signee Trae Davis, a football and basketball standout at Troup (Texas) High School, posted a 22-8.5 long jump to accompany the personal-best 23-1.75 he notched a few weeks ago. Davis, a prolific scorer and playmaker on the hardwood, played all three phases on the gridiron for Troup, where he eclipsed 1,100 rushing yards and 2,200 receiving yards and scored more than 40 offensive touchdowns across the past three seasons.
— Ingleside (Texas) 2024 standout and North Texas signee Jaydon Smith competed in three different individual events and his school’s 4×100 relay. Smith, who high jumped 6-4 earlier in March, high jumped 6-2 at the Texas Relays, where he also long jumped 20-10 and triple jumped 43-8, shorter than four inches shy of his personal best set a few weeks ago. Smith’s senior football season this past fall saw him catch 82 passes for 1,789 yards and a whopping 39 TDs.
— Gilmer (Texas) High’s Will Henderson, a high three-star unsigned 2024 running back, ran a 10.15 100 in prelims before placing second in the Division I high school finals with a 10.50. Henderson won the Texas 4A 100-meter championship in May 2023, then ran for more than 2,700 yards and 35 TDs — plus 36 catches, 430 yards, and three TDs — for Gilmer’s 4A D-II state championship team this past fall.
— Baylor athlete signee Mason Dossett of Fort Bend (Texas) Ridge Point ran the event’s fastest 110-meter hurdles time with a sizzling 13.27 seconds, which followed his 13.48 in prelims. Dossett, the son of former Baylor and Green Bay Packers receiver Martin Dossett, could play either way at the college level. He scored 12 offensive touchdowns in a 39-game high school career, adding two INT return scores as a senior and a kickoff return TD as a junior.
— Denton (Texas) Ryan 2025 Top247 four-star offensive tackle Ty Haywood added to his strong shot put ledger with a throw eclipsing 52 feet. One of the nation’s top tackle prospects, Haywood hit 55-3 in late March.
— Missouri running back signee Kewan Lacy from Lancaster (Texas) ran a 10.49 100 in Division II high school preliminary action. Lacy ran for 3,595 yards and 43 TDs on 7.5 yards per carry — adding 500-plus receiving yards and five scores — across the past three high school seasons.
— Argyle (Texas) Liberty Christian 2025 receiver Quinton Brown recorded a 10.61 100-meter rep. According to Athletic.net, that marked his fifth 100-meter time between 10.50 and 10.61 since late February. Brown also ran anchor of Liberty Christian’s third-place 4×100 relay, which finished behind only Duncanville and American Heritage. Boise State recently landed the first 247Sports Crystal Ball forecast in Brown’s recruitment.
— Denton (Texas) Ryan 2025 offensive tackle Marcus Garcia posted a 160-foot discus rep at the Texas Relays. According to Athletic.net, Garcia’s throw marked his third 160+ effort in the past couple of weeks. According to the 247Sports national recruiting team, Garcia has scheduled five official visits: Nebraska, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Penn State, in chronological order.
— Oklahoma wrestling signee Jacob Henry — son of WWE legend and former World’s Strongest Man Mark Henry — posted a 51-10.75 shot put rep over the weekend. That follows an early March throw of 53-8. Henry played both ways this past fall for Class 6A power Austin (Texas) Vandegrift and is an FBS-caliber football player, in our view.
— LSU track and field commit Kameron Franklin earned a strong three-star grade at cornerback from 247Sports, but yet another event in the spikes shows why he’s headed to college in that sport. Franklin high jumped 6-6 and long jumped 22-0.5. Those numbers join previous Spring 2024 high jumps of 6-9 and 6-8 and a late February long jump of 22-1, per Athletic.net.
