I like where NC State stands for four-star defensive back Jontae Gilbert of Atlanta Douglass as the dead period ends — which gets us closer to Gilbert’s circled Aug. 10 decision date. Throughout July, Gilbert — who could project as a corner, safety or nickel at the college level — worked with a top group of Georgia, Georgia Tech, NC State and UCF.
Earlier this month, I wrote that NC State (June 19 official visit) and UCF (May 31 official visit) were viewed as frontrunners exiting June, and perhaps in that order.
I also wrote that in-state UGA (June 7 official visit) shouldn’t be dismissed for obvious reasons, but that the Dawgs were continuing to construct their cornerback board for the 2025 class and hadn’t necessarily identified Gilbert as a priority target.
