One of the top available players in the transfer portal is on the verge of landing with an SEC program.
Former Penn State wide receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith is expected to end up at Auburn, sources tell 247Sports.
Lambert-Smith, who led the Nittany Lions with 53 catches last year, had been deciding between the Tigers and Texas A&M after also garnering interest from schools such as USC and Florida State.
Auburn received the initial visit from Lambert-Smith last week. He then visited A&M this past weekend. The original plan seemed to be to also visit USC, but that changed after the Trojans landed a commitment from veteran wide receiver Kyle Ford, a former five-star recruit who began his career at USC before spending last year at UCLA.
Landing Lambert-Smith would provide a significant boost to the passing game for Auburn, adding a veteran and proven option to go along with high-end young players such as five-star freshman Cam Coleman.
Even before posting the 53 catches for 673 yards and four touchdowns last year, one of the scouting services used by NFL teams had Lambert-Smith with a preseason fourth-round draft grade. The former four-star recruit finished his time at Penn State with 126 total catches for 1,721 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Despite the Nittany Lions being a run-heavy offense, Lambert-Smith tallied at least 85 yards against four separate Power Five opponents last year, including 123 yards and two touchdowns on four catches during Penn State’s season-opening win over West Virginia.
