It was a heated race for four-star defensive back Charles Bass out of East St. Louis, Illinois, but he ultimately decided to stay close to home and play for a program that has landed plenty of players from his high school.
One of the top cornerbacks in the nation, Bass will be representing the East. St. Louis Flyers at Missouri.
Speaking of Drinkwitz, this is a huge commitment for his program — which is certainly trending up.
“The growth of the program is a factor,” Bass told 247Sports. “The coaches’ spots are more stable. I’m trying to go to the next level and they’re developing guys. They just had two DBs in the draft this year and I’m trying to be in their shoes.”
Per the 247Sports Composite, Bass is the No. 13 athlete in the 2025 class.
He can play cornerback or safety at the college level, and while Mizzou may use him at either spot, the Tigers will bring him in as a safety.
Mizzou beat out the likes of Michigan, LSU, Arkansas, Cincinnati, Illinois, Kansas, Nebraska, Oregon and Texas A&M for Bass’ commitment.
