Kelvin Odih, the No. 79 overall prospect in the class of 2025 has committed to Darian DeVries and West Virginia.
The 6-foot-4, 190-pound forward from Providence, Rhode Island chooses West Virginia over Louisville and Rutgers.
“I chose West Virginia based on how they’ve been recruiting me,” Oldih told 247Sports. “They recruited me very hard and they’re a family-oriented program. That was important for me.”
To get this done, assistant coach Tom Ostrom was the lead recruiter for Oldih. Ostrom made multiple in-home visits and pursued Oldih hard for the duration of his recruitment.
Both Ostrom and coach DeVries explained to Oldih that they don’t plan to use him one way and will allow him to showcase his skillset.
“I plan on going there and making an impact right away with my versatility,” Oldih said. “I plan on playing multiple positions which is great because the more positions I play the more minutes I get.”
Oldih also mentioned DeVries’ success as an assistant at Creighton (2001-2008) and six-year tenure as head coach at Drake.
“I’m comfortable with Coach DeVries leading the way, he said. He has a great track record and success at Drake and Creighton. He worked at Creighton for a long time under Coach McDermott and I trust that he knows what he’s doing.”
Oldih now joins three-star forward Braydon Hawthorne in the class of 2025.
“I’m coming to change the program around for the better,” he said. “With picking me up and landing Braydon it’s clear the program is going to great places.”
