Labaron Philon, the No. 32 overall recruit in the 2024 class, has requested his release out of his National Letter of Intent to Kansas, a source tells 247Sports. The 6-foot-4 guard out of Branson (Mo.) Link Academy is one of the top point guards in the senior class and a native of Mobile, Alabama.
In the midst of a flurry of portal additions for Self and the Jayhawks, Philon is opting to put his name back on the market and explore other options.
Philon, the No. 3 point guard in the senior class, has been committed to Kansas since Sept. 25 when he chose the Jayhawks over Alabama, Cincinnati and Ole Miss.
This is the second time that Philon has backed off a commitment after initially committing to Auburn during his junior season.
Philon is a tough and dynamic two-way guard that is very instinctive on the court, who is a disruptive and impactful defender while being an effective playmaker and scorer offensively.
Philon will be a score on the market for whomever he lands with, due to his talent level and production at the highest levels of high school basketball.
This season, playing in the Nike EYBL Scholastic League with Link Academy, Philon averaged 11.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.3 steals a game while shooting 53.6% from the field (44.1% from 3).
