Auburn football head coach Hugh Freeze know a thing or two about Diego Pavia. In fact, he knows way too much about Pavia for his liking.
Three seasons ago, when Freeze was still head coach at Liberty, Pavia was the quarterback at New Mexico State. Despite being a massive underdog, Pavia helped lead the Aggies to a 49-14 victory over Liberty while throwing for 214 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for 125 yards and three touchdowns.
Last season, while still at New Mexico State, Pavia led the Aggies to an upset win over Freeze and Auburn. It was a 31-10 victory in which Pavia threw for 201 yards and three touchdowns.
Pavia got a “promotion” via the transfer portal to the SEC and now he’s back to haunt Freeze one more time. The 5-3 Commodores —who have already beaten Alabama this season and also took Missouri and Texas to the brink — take on Auburn on the plains this weekend, and frankly, Freeze is over it.
“I’m sick of seeing that quarterback,” Freeze said with a laugh in a recent news conference.
