Jonah Winston has a bit of a reputation to live up to as a college recruit.
His older brother, Jameis Winston, won a Heisman Trophy and National Championship at Florida State and was drafted No. 1 overall in the 2015 NFL Draft. No, Jameis never became a superstar who lived up to his draft hype, but he has produced a solid 10-year NFL career.
Jameis was a 5-star recruit, but his brother Jonah was not as highly regarded as a 3-star wide receiver.
That doesn’t mean several schools aren’t after his commitment, though. That’s a list that includes Alabama, Auburn, Colorado, Florida State, Mississippi State and Texas A&M, amongst others.
One would think FSU would have the natural leg up with the Hoover, Alabama prospect, and the 3-star did tell On3 in early January that Florida State, UCF, Auburn and Ole Miss are his top group.
On3 is now reporting that Winston is planning on taking official visits to Florida State and Auburn in the coming months, so things are starting to get serious for him.
Considering the connection, though, it will be tough for the Tigers to defeat FSU in this one.
“The one thing that makes FSU more unique than the other schools is I basically grew up at FSU,” Winston had told Warchant of On3 in early February. “That’s where the game really started for me.”
247Sports ranks Winston as the No. 43 wide receiver in the 2026 class. He’ll be an interesting name to watch over the summer.
