Gary Neville took extra measures at Anfield in a desperate bid to get Manchester United’s clash with Liverpool cancelled.
The Premier League meeting is set to go ahead despite heavy snowfall in and around the stadium.
There had been concerns the match would be postponed due to the safety of fans travelling to Anfield.
However, the clubs confirmed the fixture will go ahead as planned after a pair of safety meetings.
In a statement, Liverpool explained: “Today’s fixture against Manchester United will go ahead as planned.
“Two safety meetings were held earlier to assess the weather and travel conditions.
“We thank everyone involved in helping us to get this game on today.
“If you’re travelling to Anfield then please take extra care. We look forward to seeing you there.”
The news did not stop Neville from making a light-hearted attempt to get the match called off.
He could be seen shovelling snow back onto the pitch as Jamie Carragher helped ground staff clear an area near the touchline.
Neville’s hilarious antics were caught on camera by Sky Sports ahead of the match.
His former United team-mate Patrice Evra even encouraged him to continue, commenting: “Captain can you put more so they call it off please.”
The former Red Devils skipper made 598 appearances for the club during his career.
Of those, 26 came against Liverpool, with Neville on the winning side on 13 occasions.
United have not won at Anfield since January 2016, a run stretching back nine visits.
Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim’s side have lost their last three Premier League matches.
Those defeats leave United 14th in the table heading into Sunday’s clash.
As for the Reds, a win will see the league leaders move eight points clear at the top of the table.
