When one thinks about the injustices in football, Harry Kane not winning a single piece of silverware for club or country has to be up there. An unexpected fate especially considering that Kane was “guaranteed” a title following his transfer to Bayern Munich.
Well, despite an extremely fruitful first season individually, thanks to Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen and an uncharacteristically poor season from Bayern, the English striker went trophy-less once again.
Now, 16 games into the 2024/25 Bundesliga season and a four point lead on top of the table, Kane finally looks poised to win his first club trophy in his career. However, Leverkusen may, once again, prove to be a thorn in Bayern’s side after quietly stringing together seven consecutive Bundesliga victories, putting them in striking distance to Die Rekordmeister.
In an interview following Bayern’s 1-0 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach, Kane responded to Leverkusen’s threat, urging his side to be “on it in every moment” (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
“It’s a season that we’re going to have to be on it in every moment. Leverkusen are in good form. I think they’ve won quite a lot of games in a row so we just have to do the same. Whoever plays first obviously has the chance to put pressure on the other team and they did that to us but we were able to respond,” Kane said.
A four point lead at the top is no guarantee for Bundesliga glory. In football, things can change in a whim, so it seems like a game of who will break first between Bayern and Leverkusen.
For the sake of Harry Kane, let’s hope it wont be Bayern.
