Stats Perform is bringing a greater spotlight to athletes, students and stories at Historically Black Colleges and Universities through a partnership with Urban Edge Network. Included in the 2024 college football season are both HBCU FCS Player and Team of the Week honors and a season-ending HBCU FCS National Player of the Year Award, each presented by HBCU+.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s JaVonnie Gibson and the Tennessee State Tigers were selected Monday as the HBCU+ National Player and Team of the Week, respectively, for FCS college football games in Week 7 this past weekend.

JaVonnie Gibson, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, WR, R-So., 6-3, 205, Opelousas, Louisiana
Gibson continued his season of big plays following a transfer from Arkansas-Monticello, catching nine passes for 183 yards, including a 59-yard touchdown, in UAPB’s 21-17 SWAC win over Prairie View A&M. Seven of his receptions went for first downs. He’s the FCS leader in receiving yards (758), receiving yards per game (126.3) and yards per reception (24.5)

HBCU+ FCS National Team of the Week
Tennessee State (41-17 win over Eastern Illinois)
Draylen Ellis passed for four touchdowns and six different Tennessee State players found the end zone on Homecoming Day. Karate Brenson (seven receptions, 121 yards, TD) and defensive back Boogie Trotter (seven tackles, interceptions) also contributed in a big way as coach Eddie Georgia’s squad improved to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the Big South-OVC Football Association.
