Stats Perform is bringing a greater spotlight to athletes, students and stories at Historically Black Colleges and Universities through a partnership with Urban Edge Network. Included in the 2024 college football season are both HBCU FCS Player and Team of the Week honors and a season-ending HBCU FCS National Player of the Year Award, each presented by HBCU+.
Grambling State’s Andrew Jones and the Southern Jaguars were selected Monday as the HBCU+ National Player and Team of the Week, respectively, for FCS college football games in Week 8 this past weekend.

Andrew Jones, Grambling State, LB, R-Jr., 6-2, 220, Marrero, Louisiana
A University of Memphis transfer, Jones camped out in Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s backfield, totaling a game-high 12 tackles with 4.5 for loss in the Tigers’ 31-21, Homecoming Day win in the SWAC. The losses dropped ball carriers 23 yards, and they included a half-sack as well as a fourth-down stop that switched possession to the GSU offense.

HBCU National Team of the Week
Southern (24-14 win over Alcorn State)
On Homecoming Day, first-year coach Terrnce Graves’ Jaguars (4-3, 3-0) broke a 14-14 tie in the final seven minutes to wrestle first place in the SWAC West Division away from Alcorn State. Joshua Griffin kicked a 39-yard field goal and Kendric Rhymes (17 carries, 133 yards) scored on a 51-yard run. Linebacker Vincent Paige Jr. fueled the defense, racking up 12 tackles, including 1.5 sacks.
