Heroes, zeros and the full blitz from the Jets’ 40-14 loss to the Bills on Sunday:
Hero
Bills quarterback Josh Allen didn’t really have to do much against the sad-sack Jets defense, but he did complete 16 of 27 for 182 yards with two passing TDs, one rushing TD and no turnovers.
And he did that in three quarters because this was such a blowout that his backup, Mitchell Trubisky, played the fourth quarter.
Unsung hero
After a slow start to the game, Bills receiver Amari Cooper ended up leading the team with three receptions for 56 yards, but the key play was an acrobatic 30-yard TD catch that gave Buffalo a 19-0 lead that essentially put the game away.
Cooper slammed his head on the turf so hard he was evaluated for a head injury.
Zero
Aaron Rodgers completed just 12 of 18 passes for 112 of the quietest yards you’ll ever see, and he threw two INTs, the second of which led to the Cooper TD.
Key Stat
16: Penalties committed by the Jets, and they all came in the first three quarters.
It was the most penalties the Jets had in a game since 2018, when they committed 16 against the Rodgers-led Packers.
Quote
“That s–t’s embarrassing, that’s what’s going on in my mind. Going out like that is just unacceptable. It’s the NFL. Every game is supposed to be competitive and to be down 40 to zero like that … embarrassing. Point blank. Period.’’
