Many feel the New York Jets are in the position they’re in now, having missed the playoffs every season since 2010, because of a series of bad decisions that management has made.
While many have pointed the finger at quarterback Aaron Rodgers for the Jets going 5-12 this season, others feel owner Woody Johnson is an even bigger culprit.
Johnson fired Robert Saleh as head coach and Joe Douglas as general manager during this season, which has left the Jets looking to fill both positions as they begin their offseason.
New York is reportedly headed toward hiring Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn as its head coach and Washington Commanders assistant general manager Lance Newmark as its general manager.
At first glance, hiring Glenn and Newmark, who worked together with the Lions, may sound satisfactory.
But according to Sal Licata of WFAN Sports Radio, Newmark is a bad choice because he has never been a general manager in the NFL.
“I think even worse than hiring a head coach that doesn’t have head coaching experience is the Jets yet again doing it with a first-time general manager. That, to me, is inexcusable,” Licata said.

In theory, Newmark, thanks to his many years as an assistant GM, scouting director and director of player personnel, could be ready to become a good general manager.
On the other hand, the Jets have been such a mess for a long time that they need someone who will come in and know exactly what needs to be done and how it needs to be done.
The roster has talent, especially on defense, but the team has to figure out the situation with Rodgers and how to move forward if he doesn’t return.
The Jets have the No. 7 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, which could be the first test to show if the new front office will be an improvement over the previous regime.
