GREENWICH, Conn. — Jaylen Pray grew up in the Bronx with a hunger to play college basketball. As the 6-foot-6, 265-pound Pray’s high school career unfolded, though, a few discussions led to a switch in sports.
However, even as his potential began to flash, it was his ability to dip into his basketball past, which included playing AAU basketball with Syracuse legend Carmelo Anthony‘s son. That turned into a pivotal moment when Pray was offered a football scholarship by Syracuse.
“(Anthony) definitely helped in that process,” said Pray, who committed to the Orange as a lineman in late March. “It was reaching out to the coaches, telling them about my character, my capabilities. Things of that nature.”
