The NFL could soon be making an interesting switch in the coming years.
According to “Pro Football Talk” co-host and NFL insider Mike Florio, an 18-game season could be on the table as soon as 2027.
On Thursday morning’s “The Ross Tucker Podcast,” Florio discussed the possibility of an 18-game schedule.
“The ’26 Super Bowl, to the extent that people have been craving the Super Bowl on President’s Day Weekend…It lands on President’s Day Weekend. So, we’re gonna get that in two years…We could get it the next year if they add an 18th game. It would have to be without a bye,” Florio said.

The idea of NFL fans having the Monday off after the Super Bowl could be super tantalizing for the league.
If Commissioner Roger Goodell and Co. could swing that, the league could be at an all-time high.
Unfortunately, this would require the players to be open to the idea of playing 18 games, which could be a very tall ask.
The bodies of NFL players are subject to a great deal of wear and tear because football is arguably the most physical sport in the world.
Adding another game of being hit to the schedule might not be so simple.
Even for the coaching staff and front offices all around the league, those people already spend a lot of time away from their families on a daily basis.
Yes, an 18-game schedule might benefit the fans and the league, but it might not benefit the league’s actual employees.
