The Chicago Bears made franchise history on Friday by firing head coach Matt Eberflus following the team’s disastrous loss to the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day.
This marked the first time in the team’s 100-year history that they have fired a coach midseason.
Even though Eberflus is gone, there is still plenty of residual damage left from his tenure, and one insider recently shared a problem that he had with the team during his tenure.
The Athletic insiders Dianna Russini and Adam Jahns shared in a recent article that not only was his poor record a reason for his firing, but there was plenty of frustration throughout the organization with his choice for offensive coordinator, his questionable decision-making, and his lack of personal accountability.
Matt Eberflus is gone, but his poor record as Bears coach is only part of the reason why.

It became clear in some of the team’s postgame press conferences after multiple disastrous losses that there was a disconnect between Eberflus and his locker room, as he somehow defended the decision-making at the end of the Lions game that resulted in the team running just one play in the final 30 seconds despite having a timeout.
It was exactly the kind of finish that gets a coach fired, and some players seemed relieved on X that the organization finally pulled the plug.
Now that the team is free of its coach, the focus turns toward the rest of the season.
The only goal is to finish strong and get rookie quarterback Caleb Williams to keep making strides.
It’s a new day for Bears fans, and they will be a coveted spot this offseason during the coaching carousel.
