For more than two decades, Bill Belichick had the NFL in a chokehold.
He called the shots for the New England Patriots, establishing a strict system, and the results spoke for themselves.
However, sports is an ungrateful business, and it’s never about what you’ve done as much as it is about what you can do.
That’s why, after his relationship with Patriots owner Robert Kraft had become strained, the organization decided to go in a different direction.
Notably, that seemed like the opportunity of a lifetime for multiple teams, and 10 years ago, half the NFL would’ve been at his door to try to hire Belichick.
But this past offseason, that wasn’t the case, at all.
According to a report by Dianna Russini of The Athletic, that’s why Belichick is now considering a move to college football, as he was “turned off” by the lack of interest he got in the last coaching cycle.
Coaches coach, period.
It’s why Bill Belichick is having conversations with the University of North Carolina about its vacancy.
And it’s why his interest is real in foregoing an NFL return for the college ranks, writes @DMRussini.https://t.co/95ZsjPe1yN pic.twitter.com/0WhfBOhVZ3

The Atlanta Falcons reportedly were close to hiring Belichick before Kraft warned them against it.
No other team expressed a formal interest in getting him, with some believing his ways are outdated.
Others don’t want him to be general manager as well, as he reportedly wants full control of football operations.
Whatever the case, it was crazy to see that no one was interested in hiring the man who most people consider to be the greatest head coach in NFL history.
As a result, fans might get to see him coaching in the college game instead.
