Mike Macdonald as head coach”>
Even after the transfer portal window closes, something happens to keep that door just a little bit ajar. And that portal window will open soon for those hoping to poach Boston College players after the news that head coach Jeff Hafley is expected to move on to the NFL as defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers.
Once the move is made official, that would open up a 30-day window for Boston College players to enter the transfer portal and maintain immediate eligibility at another school, and perhaps the most intriguing of those players comprise a strong transfer class that signed up to join the Eagles in 2024. Some of those players were highly-recruited out of the portal when Boston College got them, and while players on the current roster have history on campus and with the program, it wouldn’t be difficult for those transfers to move on to another team before settling in.
There are some prizes in that 10-man bunch, eight of whom arrive from other power conference schools. That includes explosive running back Treshaun Ward, who has rushed for 1,271 yards and 12 touchdowns at 5.8 yards per pop over the last two seasons at Florida State and Kansas State. And Boston College’s top-ranked transfer is another running back who can fill the thunder role to Ward’s lightning. Jordan McDonald has the size to be an every-down back, and he filled a short-yardage role at UCF before RJ Harvey emerged as one of the Big 12’s best backs.
It also includes Texas Tech wide receiver transfer Jerand Bradley, a preseason first-team All-Big 12 pick heading into the 2023 season. The Red Raiders battled injuries at the quarterback position, but the 6-foot-5 Bradley still caught 36 passes for 431 yards and four touchdowns, a year after he brought in 51 passes for 744 yards and six touchdowns as a redshirt freshman. He has NFL potential if he puts it all together. Vanderbilt transfer wide receiver Jayden McGowan is a diminutive speedster, while former North Carolina tight end Kamari Morales caught nine combined touchdowns in 2021 and 2022 before a reduced role this past season.
Defensively, the headliners are probably a pair of ex-Ohio State defensive backs, cornerback Ryan Turner and safety Cameron Martinez, both of whom ranked as four-star prospects out of high school. And it’s never a bad thing to bring in a power conference defensive lineman, as Sed McConnell arrived from Illinois.
Outside of the eight power conference transfers, Boston College is bringing in a quarterback with starting experience in FIU’s Grayson James and a cornerback in Georgia State’s Bryquise Brown.

Which of those players, if any, will hit the portal? That part remains to be seen, but a strong transfer class that Boston College was excited about could be a boon for teams still looking to fill out their rosters.
