The Jets still haven’t made a decision on their kicker for Thursday’s game yet, but they officially started the competition — to “create some stress,” Ulrbich said.
Cade York, Riley Patterson, Spencer Shrader, Andre Szmyt, Zane Gonzalez and Brayden Narveson worked out for the Jets, according to the NFL Network, after Greg Zuerlein’s rough season potentially reached a breaking point with another missed extra point and another missed field goal Sunday.
The former Pro Bowl kicker — also added to the injury report (non-kicking knee) after practicing in a limited capacity Tuesday — has missed six field goals this season and holds the worst field-goal percentage in the NFL among kickers with more than two attempts in 2024.
York and Narveson are the only two who have kicked in a game this season.
The Jets brought the kickers to MetLife Stadium for the tryout.
The Jets were still awaiting a verdict on C.J. Mosley’s status after the linebacker underwent imaging for a neck injury.
“Now it’s just getting all those pictures to the specialist and getting evaluated,” Ulbrich said.
He didn’t practice Tuesday, along with safeties Tony Adams (hamstring) and Ashytn Davis (concussion), DL Leki Fotu (knee), WR Allen Lazard (chest) and G Alijah Vera-Tucker (ankle).
LB Chazz Surratt (heel) and OT Morgan Moses (knee) were limited participants, along with Zuerlein. … Rodgers (knee, hamstring), CB Michael Carter II (back), OL Jake Hanson (thumb), DE Will McDonald IV (shoulder), DE Haason Reddick (neck), LB Jamien Sherwood (shoulder), LT Tyron Smith (rest), DL Quinnen Williams (ankle) and TE Kenny Yeboah (abdomen) were full participants.
