NEW ORLEANS — New Jets general manager Darren Mougey began making changes to the front office.
Mougey fired co-director of player personnel Greg Nejmeh and senior director of football administration David Socie.
Nejmeh was with the Jets for 16 years, rising through the organization from scouting intern to one of the top members of the personnel department. Socie has been the chief contract negotiator since 2018.
The Jets have also listed Phil Savage as a consultant on their website.
Savage had been one of former GM Joe Douglas’ top lieutenants and served as interim GM after Douglas was fired in November.
The Jets are hiring Rob Paton to replace Nejmeh, according to 9 News in Denver. Paton was a national scout for the Broncos, starting there in 2017. Mougey and Paton worked together in Denver.
Paton is the nephew of Broncos GM George Paton.
This is the first sign of a shake-up by Mougey of the personnel department and front office.
The Jets have not had much change in those areas through the years despite their 14-year playoff drought and four different GMs in that time.
There may be more changes coming after the draft in April. Teams typically wait until the draft is over to make changes in the scouting department.
New coach Aaron Glenn is still building his staff, and he will be making a change with his strength and conditioning coach.
Mike Nicolini, who came with Robert Saleh in 2021, is no longer with the team.
