HOUSTON – The Houston Astros have agreed to a five-year contract extension with All-Star second baseman Jose Altuve, general manager Dana Brown announced on Tuesday.
The extension will cover seasons 2025-29. Altuve entered this season (2024) in the final year of a seven-year contract extension that he signed on March 19, 2018.
Altuve’s contract is expected to be worth $125 million over five years and includes a $15 million signing bonus, a source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand. The club did not confirm the value.
The 2024 season will be the 13th full season in an Astros uniform for the eight-time All-Star Altuve. In his first 12 seasons, he has established himself as a future Hall of Fame candidate and as one of the top three players in franchise history, along with Hall of Famers Jeff Bagwell and Craig Biggio. Additionally, Altuve has been the central figure in the most successful era in Astros history, which includes eight postseason appearances, a record seven consecutive appearances in the ALCS, four American League Pennants and two World Series titles.
