Bayern Munich set a soft deadline for Joshua Kimmich to let them know — one way or the other — about his decision on whether or not he would be staying in Bavaria or transferring away.
That date was January 5th and Kimmich stiff-armed the request as he continues to figure out what he wants to do for his future per Sky Sport Florian Plettenberg:
Before Christmas, as previously revealed, FC Bayern expressed to Joshua #Kimmich their desire for him to make a clear statement around January 5th regarding whether he wants to extend his contract or leave the club, as Bayern seek planning security.
This was not a deadline or an ultimatum but merely a request. However, there is still no clear decision from Kimmich. Negotiations are ongoing, and further talks have taken place in recent days.
Kimmich is waiting. Requests from Spain and England are on the table.
Kimmich is expected to get legitimate offers from several big clubs (Manchester City, Liverpool FC, FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United are just some of the clubs rumored to be interested in Kimmich), but those could take a bit to develop.
While that process happens, Bayern Munich will just have to continue to…wait.
