The Washington Commanders stunned the Detroit Lions with an unexpected playoff victory at Ford Field in the Divisional Round.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell watched his team falter early, leading to a surprising 45-31 defeat at the hands of the underdog Commanders.
However, Washington’s celebration was tempered by a significant blow to their offensive line.
The bad news arrived Sunday when ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Commanders head coach Dan Quinn confirmed Cosmi had suffered an ACL injury, ending his playoff run.
The timing couldn’t be worse for Washington’s offensive line as they push deeper into the postseason.

More concerning is the possibility that Cosmi’s recovery could stretch into next season, potentially affecting his availability.
The injury comes at a pivotal moment in Cosmi’s career. The soon-to-be 26-year-old guard, originally selected by the Washington Commanders in the second round of the 2021 draft, has emerged as a cornerstone of their offensive line.
His breakout 2023 season, where Pro Football Focus ranked him as the fourth-best guard among 79 qualifiers, transformed his trajectory from potential free agent to essential team asset.
Washington’s front office recognized Cosmi’s value before the 2024 season began, securing him with a four-year, $74 million deal that keeps him in Washington through 2028.
While the contract included $26.6 million in guaranteed money at signing, it’s clear the Commanders view him as a crucial piece of their offensive line’s future.
Now, they’ll have to navigate the remainder of their playoff journey without one of their most reliable protectors.
