The Michigan Wolverines have added another quarterback to their 2025 recruiting class, with Chase Herbstreit committing to play for head coach Sherrone Moore in Ann Arbor.
Herbstreit, a three-star prospect from St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati, joins the nation’s top recruit, Bryce Underwood, in Michigan’s quarterback room.
Herbstreit threw for 1,598 yards and 18 touchdowns during his senior season, leading St. Xavier to the OHSAA Division 1 Regional final. He also was limited in his mistakes, throwing just five interceptions and finishing with a 90.5 quarterback rating. Despite not being regarded as a top-tier recruit, Herbstreit earned a full scholarship offer from Michigan on Sunday.
Herbstreit’s commitment to Michigan is intriguing not just because of his potential, but also due to the timing of his decision. Coming off Michigan’s recent flip of former LSU commit Bryce Underwood, the No. 1 overall recruit in the country, Herbstreit faces stiff competition for playing time in a loaded quarterback room.
Still, his choice to commit to the Wolverines is a bold one, especially with his strong family ties to Ohio State — his father, Kirk, played for the Buckeyes, and his older brother Zak is currently a walk-on at Ohio State. Herbstreit’s decision to join Michigan adds another layer to the already heated rivalry between the two programs, and it will be interesting to see how he develops under Moore’s guidance.
As for Kirk Herbstreit, it’s going to be interesting to see how he navigates this one on “College GameDay.”
