Contract negotiations for both Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies are in the final stages at Bayern Munich and new, long-term deals are fully expected to happen for both players, with the efforts having been spearheaded by Max Eberl and Christoph Freund. The club is also still working on Joshua Kimmich, but Leroy Sané is also a player that is in a tricky spot with the club.
Sané’s current contract with Bayern is set to expire at the of this season, but it is still unclear from the club’s perspective whether or not they plan to offer him a contract extension. Financially, things have to be balanced out as far as the overall wage structure is concerned, but the club has to plan for the salary bumps that both Musiala and Davies are going to get with their own new deals. Sané’s performances have also not been incredibly consistent season after season ever since he joined from Manchester City, so how he performs the rest of this season under Vincent Kompany could weigh heavily in how the club’s stance might change.
Despite not exactly always being a first choice winger for Kompany, knowing full well that Michael Olise has become one of the bonafide starters in that position, Sané still wants to stay at Bayern and fight for his place in the team. He knows there is interest from a bevy of club’s across Europe but is even willing to take a salary cut to stay with the Rekordmeister. “Of course, clubs have already inquired about my situation. But everyone knows my position on the topic. I won’t consider it at the moment, but will focus on FC Bayern and try to be as successful as possible with the team,” the winger recently told Sport Bild (via @iMiaSanMia).
Currently, Sané earns roughly 15 million euros per year, which ranks within the top seven earners at the club as of this season, but it is unclear just how much of a salary cut he is willing to take to stay at the club. Regardless, he is ready and willing to sign a performance-based contract, which would directly affect how much he is making and he is willing to limit a new deal to only two years. With all things considered, Bayern is really in the driver’s seat in this situation and will have to see if he is able to improve upon his current tally of seven goals and two assists from 22 appearances across all competitions thus far.
In Sané’s defense, though, he is currently in a hot streak of form, having scored four goals and provided two assists from his last six Bundesliga matches. Opinions from the club can sway in his favor if he is able to maintain this type of form.
