Liverpool eased to another win to maintain their six-point lead at the top of the Premier League, beating Ipswich Town 4-1 at Anfield.
Goals from Dominik Szoboszlai, Mohamed Salah and a pair from Cody Gakpo were enough to seal victory, though Jacob Greaves did grab a consolation for Ipswich near the end of an otherwise one-sided game.
It took less than 11 minutes for the hosts to take the lead. Ibrahima Konaté slid the ball into the path of Szoboszlai, who cut inside Dara O’Shea and with his left foot hit a low shot into the corner, with Ipswich goalkeeper Christian Walton unable to keep it out.
Liverpool doubled their lead in the 35th minute when an in-swinging cross from Gakpo on the left found Salah at the far post, who controlled with his first touch and fired into the roof of the net with his second from an angle. It was the Egyptian’s 19th league goal of the season, and his 40th goal involvement in all competitions (23 goals, 17 assists).
Gakpo scored a third before half-time, tapping in from close range after Szoboszlai’s shot was parried by Walton.
Ipswich finally recorded their first shot of the game in the 60th minute when Omari Hutchinson tried his luck with an ambitious effort from outside the box but Alisson saved comfortably.
Liverpool had their fourth just six minutes later as Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross found Gakpo who headed in at the back post.
After a difficult day, the visiting fans did have something to celebrate in the 90th minute as Greaves headed in from a corner taken by debutant Julio Enciso, but it was an otherwise routine victory for Arne Slot’s men.
