Logan Paul admits there was a time he would have been terrified if Conor McGregor was threatening to kick his ass but that wasn’t the case when they crossed paths just recently.
In a surreal scene that unfolded during President Donald Trump’s inauguration, Paul, his brother Jake Paul and McGregor were all on the same bus getting transported to the festivities before they eventually started talking about potential future fights. At one point, McGregor tells the Paul brothers “I’m going to slap the head off the two of you and KSI” and called them all “a little side job.”
During the latest episode of his Impaulsive podcast, Logan says there’s actually a longer version of that interaction caught on video but only a small clip was actually released. But watching it back now, Logan says he couldn’t help but notice he was laughing at McGregor’s threats, which is definitely something he wouldn’t have done a few years ago when the Irish superstar was a two-division UFC champion and arguably the biggest name in combat sports.
“I watched back that footage of Conor talking shit to us,” Paul said. “He said he’s going to slap me, Jake and KSI and then you can see me and Jake like belly laugh. We’re fully laughing at what used to be one of the scariest, baddest men on the planet.
“As a person who used to be a big fan of Conor McGregor, like back in the day he pioneered crossover boxing, all of that stuff, I watched it back and I actually felt sad. I was like this is a statement that at one point would have actually made us feel fear and now two YouTubers are laughing at this washed up, cracked out fighter, who’s unhinged and there’s no truth in what he’s saying.”
Paul revealed that he and his brother Jake only found out about sharing a bus with McGregor to the event just minutes before he showed up.
Rather than make things awkward, Paul says they decided right away that this wasn’t the time to start some kind of brawl on a bus bound for the inauguration so they signed a temporary peace treaty with McGregor to ensure nothing stupid happened.
“They stuck us on a bus together like some sort of f*cking high school field trip,” Paul said. “We were told McGregor was going to pull up like moments [before it happened]. Like ‘just so you know, McGregor’s on the same bus.’ It’s 7 a.m. Jake and I are looking at each other like dude, what are you thinking? This is a horrible idea.
“We all came to the conclusion that this is a bigger mission at play here, Donald Trump’s inauguration, let’s behave as best as we can. Today we’re going to sign as much of a peace treaty as we can. McGregor was very respectful [but] very cracked out, the guy’s got issues. He’s got issues. He’s so entertaining but he has so much energy at 7:30 a.m. … he’s permanently wired.”
After the bus ride was finished and the inauguration concluded, Paul attended the reception afterwards where he once again ran into McGregor.
Paul claims McGregor continued trash talking him and his brother Jake and the situation could have easily exploded into a fight right in the middle of a crowded room.
“It was constantly simmering between us and at a few points it got to like a boiling point,” Paul revealed. “Jake and I knew anyway that if one of us said one comment that was over the line, it would have been f*cked Actually f*cked.
“Nobody wanted to be that person at the inauguration to get into a fight and like embarrass yourself and make a bad look for your country.”
Paul’s co-host joked that if a fight actually broke out that McGregor would have surely beat him up, which earned a wide-eyed look from the social influencer and current WWE superstar.
From Paul’s perspective, McGregor isn’t doing anything to maintain his reputation as one of the best fighters on the planet and that interaction only further cemented his opinion about the former UFC champion.
“He’s not working anything because he’s not working,” Paul said about McGregor. “He’s not doing anything except drugs. Two YouTubers laughed in his face. He used to be one of the baddest men on the planet. The fall from grace of Conor McGregor is really sad.”
