Arsenal’s sporting director Edu is set to make a surprise exit from the club.
Edu has been a key ally for Mikel Arteta in helping him build a title challenging squad.
He has played a key role in their recruitment of players like Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice.
The former Arsenal midfielder is considered as one of the top sporting directors in world football right now.
The 46-year-old also played a key role in off-loading a number of players like Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.
First reported by The Mail, it is currently unclear about the reasons for his departure.
The Brazilian first took on the role in 2019 and alongside Arteta has built the club back into title contenders.
Then director of football Raul Sanileh said: “We’re very excited that Edu is joining the team. He has great experience and technical football knowledge and most importantly is a true Arsenal man.
“He understands the club and what we stand for to our millions of fans around the world.”
His departure comes following Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat to Newcastle on Saturday.
