We look ahead to Sunday’s Premier League game at Old Trafford with our Manchester United vs Brighton prediction and preview. Can the Red Devils build on Thursday’s dramatic win over Southampton?
Man Utd vs Brighton Stats: The Key Insights
- Manchester United are favourites to beat Brighton on Sunday, winning 44.8% of the Opta supercomputer’s pre-match simulations.
- This will be the sixth time Brighton have faced United in the Premier League while above them in the table. Having lost the first two such matches, the Seagulls have won each of the last three.
- None of the 15 Premier League meetings between Man Utd and Brighton have been drawn – only Man Utd vs Wigan Athletic has been played more often without any draws in the competition’s history (16).
Following impressive showings at Liverpool and Arsenal, Manchester United appeared set to have that momentum stalled with a humiliating defeat when they trailed bottom club Southampton with 10 minutes to play at Old Trafford on Thursday.
However, Amad Diallo’s late hat-trick rescued Ruben Amorim’s men as the winger became just the third player in Premier League history to score three times in the final 10 minutes of a game. All three instances have been by United players, with the others being Ole Gunnar Solskjaer versus Nottingham Forest in February 1999 and Wayne Rooney against Hull City in January 2010.
Only Mohamed Salah (20) and Alexander Isak (17) have more Premier League goal involvements since the start of November than Diallo’s 10 (5 goals, 5 assists).
Diallo also became the second-youngest player to score a Premier League hat-trick for United (aged 22 years, 189 days), after Rooney, who did so at the age of 21 years and four days. His heroics saw United avoid the ignominy of suffering four straight Premier League defeats at Old Trafford for the very first time.
United are back at home on Sunday, with Brighton the visitors after they ended their eight-match winless streak with a 2-0 triumph over Ipswich Town at Portman Road. Second-half goals from Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter proved enough to clinch victory. Mitoma (14) became the joint-top Japanese goalscorer in Premier League history with his strike, along with Shinji Okazaki.
Only Liverpool (1) and Arsenal (2) have lost fewer Premier League games than Brighton (4) this season. They have taken 31 points from their 21 league games, the third successive campaign in which they have collected 30 points or more by this stage after failing to do so in any of their first five Premier League seasons.
Brighton will hope to maintain their fine record on Sundays, when they have recorded a higher win rate (38.9%) and averaged more goals per game (1.6) than they do on any other day of the week on which they have played at least 10 Premier League matches.
All four Premier League games to feature Brighton on a Sunday this season have featured at least four goals (eight goals for, nine against in total). Their average of 4.3 total goals per game in those contests is the highest figure recorded by any team on either Saturdays or Sundays in 2024-25.
Man Utd vs Brighton Head-to-Head
Manchester United have lost five of their last six Premier League games against Brighton (one win), including both meetings at Old Trafford in that run. Only against Manchester City (twice) have they ever lost three in a row at home in the competition.
Indeed, Brighton’s 47% win rate against United in the Premier League is the highest recorded by any team in the competition’s history, with the Seagulls triumphing seven times in 15 meetings.
None of those 15 games have been drawn, with United registering eight victories. Only United versus Wigan Athletic (16 times) has been played more often without a single draw in Premier League history.
This will be the sixth time Brighton have faced United in the Premier League while above them in the league table, and the latest into a season they have ever done so. Having lost the first two such matches, the Seagulls have now won each of the last three.
Brighton beat United 2-1 in the reverse fixture at the Amex Stadium in August. Amad equalised for United after Danny Welbeck’s opener against his former club, but João Pedro emerged with a 95th-minute winner for the Seagulls.
Man Utd vs Brighton Prediction
