In football, few topics spark as much speculation as contract renewals, but Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl prefers to stay focused on the present. Speaking about Eric Dier, Eberl was full of praise for the defender’s recent performance.
“Eric played a great game [against Freiburg]. We’re extremely happy that he’s with us,” Eberl said in an interview (captured by @iMiaSanMia), highlighting Dier’s importance to the team.
However, when pressed about the possibility of a new deal for the 31-year-old, Eberl quickly shut down any assumptions. “At the moment there are no talks yet – we’re focused on this season. I don’t always have to talk about contracts, it’s a tiring topic,” he added.
This balanced response reflects Bayern’s strategy of prioritizing the team’s current goals over off-field distractions, but is also extremely deflective, leaving fans speculating that Dier most probably will not be extended. While the English international has proven his value on the pitch, Eberl’s comments suggest that contract decisions will come later, likely after the season concludes.
For now, Dier’s performances will do the talking, and Bayern fans will hope he continues to deliver when it matters most.
Is Bayern Munich setting the bar too low for itself with some of the decisions that it is making? Where does Bayern need to to improve the roster now…and in the future? Should the club just stay quiet about Joshua Kimmich’s contract situation? We think so! Let’s talk about all of that and more on the Bavarian Podcast Works Show.
