One of Bayern Munich’s biggest goals of the season and the new year is to ensure a close connection to the fans. With the reduction of public training sessions and some really dour performances in the 2023/24 season, that connection lost a little of its’ lustor and the club has aimed to bring it back. One of the main avenues of action in this regard has been adding more public training sessions. As a newcomer, summer signing Michael Olise immediately identifies the value of public training session.
Primarily because he used to be one of the fans: “I think those sessions are important for both sides. We players experience the fans up close and the fans see how we train and get really close to us too” Olise said, via @iMiaSanMia. “It’s amazing especially for the kids. When I was a kid I also admired footballers, especially at [Chelsea FC]. But I was always too nervous and excited to ask for an autograph or a selfie.”
Despite this nervousness, however, there is still an encounter from these public sessions that the French international remembers fondly: “I met David Beckham once. That was really special, Beckham is an impressive personality.”
Such special moments, encounters and moments of connection are why these public training sessions are so important. They are a tradition that Bayern have belatedly rediscovered the value of and are now finally reigniting.
