The beauty of football is in how easy it is to play: As long as one has a ball, anything is possible. Add a few random objects as imaginary goal posts and suddenly a full match of football is possible. This ease is why street football has become so common and so popular all over the country. The same goes for England, where new Bayern Munich signing Michael Olise grew up. Before he enrolled in the academy of Chelsea FC, he was out on the streets with the ball.
“I’ve had the ball on my feet ever since I can remember. We were on the streets, we played passes with the house walls,” Olise mused, via @iMiaSanMia. “I played with my brother Richard a lot – and won most of the time, as the older and taller one. Today he’s actually right-back at Chelsea, probably because he always had to defend against me [laughs].”
The two brother’s paths have now split, one leading to Germany while the other remained in England. Yet they both bear the both humble and glorious origin story of street footballers.
