Since Thursday, Michigan had already added three new pieces to its secondary. Now, the Wolverines are set to add another.
Ex-UNLV standout Ricky Johnson will transfer to Michigan, his agents Darren Wilson and Chase Moss tell 247Sports.
The news comes as the versatile 6-foot-1 Texas native wraps up a visit to Ann Arbor that began on Thursday. Johnson, who has been committed to Washington State, posted 71 tackles, 14 pass breakups and four interceptions in his final 25 games at UNLV.
Johnson has two years of eligibility remaining.
Michigan had been focused on adding talent to both its cornerback and safety groups via the transfer portal and has now accomplished that by landing former Albany FCS All-American cornerback Aamir Hall Thursday, ex-Tennessee starting safety Wesley Walker and former Michigan State standout safety Jaden Mangham on Friday and now Johnson today.
Hall accumulated five interceptions and 15 pass breakups at Albany last season. Walker, who had re-entered the transfer portal after spending the spring at Louisville, tallied 89 tackles the last two years at Tennessee and had an interception in the Vols’ 2022 Orange Bowl win over Clemson. Mangham recorded 52 tackles and four interceptions at Michigan State last season.
