As many people have anticipated for months, Mike McCarthy has left the Dallas Cowboys as their head coach following the expiration of his contract.
Many feel it has presented the Cowboys with an opportunity to reinvigorate their team with a new head coach.
Oddly enough, in recent days, the Cowboys organization blocked McCarthy from talking to other teams about their head coaching openings without coming to terms with him on a new contract, and Mike Greenberg criticized owner Jerry Jones for his handling of the situation, per ESPN Radio.
“Well beneath a person the stature of Jerry Jones,” Greenberg said.

In five seasons as the Cowboys’ head coach, McCarthy had stars such as quarterback Dak Prescott, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, pass rusher Micah Parsons and defensive backs Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland on his side, but he was unable to maximize their talent.
He won a grand total of one playoff game, and this season, Dallas went just 7-10 and failed to make the postseason.
Many would likely say the real problem with the team is its top-heavy roster, and many, as usual, have pointed the finger at Jones.
The franchise gave Prescott a humongous four-year, $240 million contract extension, one that will make their salary cap situation very tricky and some would say is too much for a player of his caliber.
Dallas hasn’t won the Super Bowl championship or reached the NFC Championship Game since the 1995 season, and their fan base has grown very frustrated.
