Mike Tyson is done fighting … or at least he is if his wife Lakiha “Kiki” Spicer has her way.
Following a disappointing performance against Jake Paul back in November, Tyson said he was interesting in continuing to fight. But according to “Iron” Mike’s son Amir, Kiki is vetoing that idea.
“I think he’s done,” Amir told Seconds Out. “My step-mom, she’s saying he’s done, and they’re a team. That’s husband and wife stuff.”
Tyson was reportedly paid around $20 million to fight Paul in what became the most streamed sporting event in history with 65 million Netflix accounts tuned in. That’s good money and great ratings, but his performance was so bad that in-denial fans (including Rocky Balboa himself) accused Mike of pulling his punches and letting Jake win.
Amir — who you may remember as the reporter Tyson kissed before baring his buttcheeks for the world to see — dismissed the fight fixing allegations.
“Some people are on that bogus ‘oh, it’s rigged,’” he said. “We know it wasn’t rigged. He just got tired. Jake would move out the way. It looked like he pulled his punches back but Jake’s moving. It’s not like the pads, he’s moving.”
“When someone doesn’t want to accept that someone lost, when it doesn’t go that way, of course they’re gonna pull that,” Amir continued. “And that’s what they’re putting on the internet. His gas tank after the third round was just shot. That’s all it was. He just kept on staying throughout. He did his best. No holding back, he did the best he could at his age.”
Tyson’s knees were also clearly shot, and we have doubts about the condition of his back given the stories Mike has told himself. In the end, the guy was 58 years old and the fight should never have been made. Paul suckered everyone into thinking it was a competitive fight, just like he suckered the MMA community multiple times against elderly former UFC champions.
Let’s hope Kiki keeps Tyson out of the ring moving forward. At worst, he can do an exhibition pitter-patter against another elderly legend. Let the Pauls chew on the next generation of aged-out stars like Conor McGregor.
