Missouri QB Brady Cook had to leave its Week 8 game against Auburn after an ankle injury on the first drive. It was bad enough that he had to go get an MRI at the hospital down the street while the game went on.
Miraculously, perhaps, Cook returned late in the third quarter with the Tigers down 17-6 and he led a comeback to help Mizzou defeat Auburn, 21-17.
That’s the stuff of legends, and Cook’s legend can grow this upcoming weekend if Missouri can beat Alabama.
Will he play, though? On Tuesday, head coach Eliah Drinkwitz played some mind games with the media over his quarterback’s availability.
“Yes, I expect Brady to be at practice,” Drinkwitz said, according to On3. “I don’t know if I’d say participate. I anticipate that he will be out at practice but that’s why I’m not letting the media at practice so that y’all can’t worry about what he’s doing or not doing at practice.”
Drinkwitz is taking advantage of a rule that states that after Week 8, the media is not able to watch practice. That means Cook can participate, or not participate, and unless someone out there is a sleuth or has some inside source, Alabama and head coach Kalen DeBoer won’t find out about it until Wednesday evening when each team is required to post an availability report.
That may not seem like much of an advantage for No. 21 Mizzou, but every bit counts as the Tigers look to beat the Crimson Tide for the first time since 1975.
