When the scholastic recruiting periods were introduced several years back, they were initially greeted with quite a bit of cynicism as players and coaches alike asked why players had to return to play with their high school teams in the middle of the grassroots season. There was speculation that it was designed to take influence away from the grassroots coaches and place it with high school coaches.
One of the first events to help change that perception was DMV Live. Held every year at the historic DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland, the event welcomed the very best teams from the talent-rich DMV area. Every game was competitive, featured D-1 talent, and allowed coaches an opportunity to see players in another setting. It turned out to be an excellent evaluation setting.
DMV Live set the bar for scholastic recruiting period events. It’s what other events have tried to emulate during this time in the summer evaluation and recruiting calendar.
